During the August 19-23 trading week, the Sensex rose 649.4 points - or 0.8 per cent - while the Nifty50 gained 282 points - or 1.1 per cent. Among the 39 weekly gainers in the Nifty50 basket were Bajaj Auto, Coal India and Hero MotoCorp, while ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors were among the top weekly losers.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell's remarks, suggesting rate hikes going forward, in his much-anticipated speech at the annual Jackson Hole symposium in Wyoming, United States, sent equities soaring on Wall Street. The Dow Jones, the S&P 500, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.1-1.5 percent, taking positive cues from Powell's keynote address.
