Sensex, Nifty likely to open lower; GIFT Nifty futures edge lower

Domestic equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty will likely begin in a red zone in today's (August 21) session. At around 7:00 am, GIFT Nifty futures, an early indicator of the Nifty50 index were down 15 points or 0.06 per cent at 24,696 ahead of opening on Dalal Street.

Global markets update

US and Asian stock markets were weak, the Nasdaq ended lower by 0.33 per cent and the Nikkei index is also down by 0.83 per cent.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, the domestic indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended higher amid buying in financial, and IT sector stocks such as HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and TCS. Sensex ended higher 378 points or 0.47 per cent at 80,802, on the flip side, the 50-share index closed at 24,698, up 126 points or 0.51 per cent from its previous close.
