Petrol, Diesel prices fall sharply on Diwali after excise duty reduction - Know how much you pay now

Petrol Price Today: Providing some relief and giving a Diwali gift to the people of the country, the central government on Wednesday announced excise duty reduction on Petrol and Diesel. After the announcement fuel rates have dropped by Rs 5-6 on Thursday, November 4.

"Government of India has taken a significant decision of reducing Central Excise Duty on Petrol & Diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively from tomorrow. Prices of petrol & diesel will thus come down accordingly. The reduction in excise duty on diesel will be double that of petrol," the government said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The government has also urged the states to commensurately reduce VAT on Petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.

The petrol price decreased by Rs 6.07 in Delhi from Rs 110.04 per litre to Rs 103.97 per litre. Diesel price also declined by Rs 11.75 and is sold at Rs 86.67 per litre, according to Indian Oil. It was earlier priced at Rs 98.42 in the national capital.

In Mumbai, the petrol price has been slashed by Rs 5.87 to reach Rs 109.98 per litre from the previous price of Rs 115.85 per litre. The price of diesel decreased by 12.48 a litre to Rs 94.14 per litre from Rs 106.62.

According to the official website of fuel retailer Indian Oil, prices of petrol and diesel are as follows:

1) Delhi: Petrol - Rs 103.97 per litre, Diesel: Rs 86.67 per litre

2) Mumbai: Petrol - Rs 109.98 per litre, Diesel: Rs 94.14 per litre

3) Kolkata: Petrol - Rs 104.67 per litre, Diesel: Rs 89.79 per litre

4) Chennai: Petrol - Rs 101.40 per litre, Diesel: Rs 89.79 per litre
