LS Polls 2024: Over 67% turnout recorded in Phase 4 elections, Bengal reports highest
LS polls 2024 Phase 4: This fourth phase saw voting in all 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 17 seats in Telangana, 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, 8 in West Bengal, 8 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 in Bihar, 4 seats in Jharkhand and Odisha, and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.
LS polls 2024 Phase 4: Around 67.25 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 11.45 PM today, May 13 despite violence incidents in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, according to the Election Commission. The elections were held in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls in 96 constituencies spread over 10 states and Union Territories.
This fourth phase saw voting in all 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 17 seats in Telangana, 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, 8 in West Bengal, 8 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 in Bihar, 4 seats in Jharkhand and Odisha, and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.
State-wise voter turnout percentage
Jammu and Kashmir had the lowest voting percentage with 37.98 per cent of voters exercising their right, while West Bengal had the most, with 78.37 per cent.
Andhra Pradesh polled 76.50 per cent, Bihar 57.06 per cent, Jharkhand 65.2 per cent, Madhya Pradesh 70.98 per cent, Maharashtra 59.64 per cent, Odisha 73.97 per cent, Telangana 64.74 per cent, and Uttar Pradesh 58.05 per cent.
J&K: In Jammu and Kashmir, voting was place for the Srinagar seat in the Kashmir Valley. This is the first Lok Sabha election held in Kashmir since the repeal of Article 370 in 2019. As of 11.45 PM, the Srinagar seat had a turnout of around 37.98 per cent. This is the biggest turnout in Srinagar since 1996. In 2019, Srinagar had a 14.43 per cent voting turnout.
Andhra Pradesh: The state registered a voter turnout of around 76.50 per cent in 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly constituencies on Monday, amid sporadic incidents of violence.
Odisha: The first phase of Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Odisha on Monday was peaceful barring some sporadic incidents of violence, with a voter turnout of 73.97 per cent, officials said.
Telangana: A voter turnout of 64.74 per cent was registered in the election to 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana.
Bihar: Polling was peaceful in five parliamentary seats in Bihar in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections with a provisional voter turnout of 57.06 per cent recorded, officials said.
Jharkhand: The state registered a voter turnout of around 65.2 per cent.
Madhya Pradesh: The state registered a voter turnout of around 70.98 per cent.
Maharashtra: The state registered a voter turnout of around 59.64 per cent.
Uttar Pradesh: The state registered a voter turnout of around 58.05 per cent.
West Bengal: The state registered a voter turnout of around 78.37 per cent.
Next Phase pollings
Polling for the next three phases in the country will be held on May 20, May 25 and June 1. The counting of votes is on June 4.
Phase 3 polling
The third round of polling, held on May 7, achieved 65.68 per cent voter turnout, which is approximately 1.32 percentage points lower than the turnout for the same seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
