Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Lok Sabha Election Nomination Filing: With the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections announced a few days back, the nomination process stared on Wednesday (March 20). The nomination process is an important step of elections, where the eligible candidates from different political parties such as the BJP and the Congress approach the district election officer and file their nomination papers. The first of the seven phases of voting will be held on 8 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh, a state with 80 seats. With the nomination process starting today, voters are most likely to keep an eye on developments in run up to the Parliamentary polls. The first phase of 2024 Lok Sabha election polling will begin on April 19, and the last phase is scheduled for June 1.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: What is the nomination process?

The process of nomination starts with the release of the notification for the Lok Sabha elections.

Under this process, the candidates register their names with the Election Commission and claim that they are the right contenders to get public votes in the Lok Sabha election field.

After examining all the certificates submitted by the candidates, the Election Commission decides their candidature for the Lok Sabha elections.

Only after their candidature is finalised, the candidates can enter the election field and spread their campaign and seek votes in their favour.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Who can nominate?

Any Indian citizen whose name is in the voter list can make nomination for the Lok Sabha seat.

When a candidate is nominated by a political party, it is said that the candidates has got a ticket from the party.

Whereas many independent candidates file their nominations with their symbols.

The Election Commission examines their application for the symbol and allocates the party symbol after that.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: How is nomination done?

To present their claim in the elections, candidates reach the office of the District Election Officer and submit the nomination form.

Along with the nomination form, they also deposit the prescribed amount as security deposit.

The candidate also has to submit an affidavit (prepared by the notary) along with the nomination paper.

In the affidavit, the candidate has to give details of their income and expenditure and other important information.

Along with the nomination form, candidates also have to give documents such as a passport size photo, Aadhar card, PAN card, domicile, caste certificate, etc.

The candidate has also to give the details of their movable and immovable properties, income, expenditure, and loans of their wife and dependent children.

Along with that, they also have to provide information about their educational qualifications, information related to weapons and jewellery they possess.

If any criminal case is going on against the candidate, or a court case is registered or if punishment has been given in any case, they also have to inform the Election Commission about that.

All these details are given through an affidavit.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Withdrawal process

After filing the nomination papers, the nomination form and the information provided by the candidate are scrutinised by the Election Commission, and processes like withdrawal of nominations are completed.

The candidate can withdraw their name after a few days of nomination.

The Election Commission gives fixed time for this.

During that time period, the candidate can withdraw his name as per their wish.

For this purpose, a declaration has to be given by the candidate on an affidavit.

BJP has announced the list of candidates for 51 seats of UP, but the party has not opened its cards regarding Pilibhit.
