Kanda Express to fetch onions from Nashik to Delhi & other cities; 1,000 mobile vans also to be deployed
Additionally, 1,000 mobile vans will be deployed to reach retail markets, ensuring seamless supply to consumers.
In a bid to meet the surge in onion demand ahead of Diwali, the government will run the Kanda Express train to fetch onions from Nashik to major consumption centres, including Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, and North Eastern states.
To ensure timely delivery, onions from Nashik will be transported through the train to these regions through various channels, including National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (Nafed), E-commerce platforms, Safal outlets, and Reliance Retail stores.
A consignment of 1,680 metric tons of onions from Nashik will be transported to Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, and North East.
Upon arrival in Delhi, the onions will be promptly distributed to vegetable wholesale markets through mobile vans, ensuring seamless supply to consumers.
Additionally, 1,000 mobile vans will be deployed to reach retail markets, ensuring seamless supply to consumers.
Here are other details of this measure:
- 1,680 MT onions from Nashik to be supplied
- Onions to reach Delhi by October 20
- The special train (Kanda Express) departs today (October 17) and reaches Delhi by October 20
- Sale through trucks in Delhi NCR markets and mobile vans in retail
This proactive approach aims to stabilise onion prices and meet the increased demand during the festive season.
