New Train Ticket Booking Rules Effective November 1: Advance booking duration for ticket reservation cut down from 120 to 60 days; check key details
Indian Railways has announced new train ticket booking rules that will take effect on November 1, 2024. Passengers will now be able to book tickets only 60 days in advance, down from the previous 120 days. Know details -
Train Ticket Booking Rules: In a significant move to combat black marketing of train tickets before Diwali, the railways have announced a change in ticket booking rules. On Thursday, the railways decided to reduce the advance booking window from 120 days to just 60 days. However, bookings made before October 31 will remain unaffected by this change.
Key Changes Effective November 1
Starting November 1, 2024, passengers will only be able to book train tickets up to 60 days in advance of their journey. It’s important to note that the day of travel is included in this 60-day period.
Exemptions for Certain Trains
The new rule will not apply to select special trains, such as the Taj Express and Gomti Express, where the existing booking rules will remain unchanged. Additionally, the 365-day advance booking option for foreign tourists will continue as is.
Curbing Black Marketing
According to the railways, only 13 per cent of passengers book tickets 120 days in advance, with most bookings occurring within 45 days. The lengthy advance booking period has also led to issues with cancellations and refunds. This new decision aims to reduce black marketing and the manipulation of ticket availability.
