Delhi AQI Update: Air quality dips; Delhi-NCR schools to operate in hybrid mode

AQI in morning today

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), at 7.15 AM, the average air quality index (AQI) was 395.

In 18 areas of the national capital, the AQI level remained between 400 and above 500.'

Schools to operate in hybrid mode

The administration has decided to run schools in hybrid mode due to air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

What is hybrid mode?

Students will be able to learn in both online and offline mode. Students who choose to attend school may do so with safety precautions in place. The remaining students will continue their studies online. 

AQI categories

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good," 51-100 "satisfactory," 101-200 "moderate," 201-300 "poor," 301-400 "very poor," 401-450 "severe," and above 450 "severe plus", as per the CPCB.

Reasons for air pollution

Pollution is mostly caused by increased haze and stubble-burning incidences. 

Grap 4: Supreme Court decision

On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to relax the stringent curbs against air pollution under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Labourers and daily wagers

Noting that GRAP-4 hurt numerous sectors of society, particularly labourers and daily wagers, the bench instructed state governments in areas where building had been prohibited to use the cash received as labour cess for their survival.

When was the GRAP implemented first?

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) was first implemented in 2017.
