Bali Pratipada 2022: Bali Pratipada is being observed today, October 26. Bali Pratipada is celebrated on the fourth day of Diwali. Also known as Bali Puja, the day celebrates Lord Vishnu's victory against demon king Bali and marks the arrival of the demon king Bali on Earth. The pooja is performed on the first day of Kartik Pratipada which falls on the next day of Diwali Puja. Bali Pratipada concides with Govardhan Puja.

Bali Pratipada History:

Demon king Bali is worshipped in India during Diwali due to boon bestowed by Lord Vishnu.

Lord Vishnu's Vamana Avatar had pushed Demon Bali to Patala. However, due to generosity of the king Bali, Lord Vishnu allowed him a three-day visit to Bhulok (i.e. the earth).

During the three days it is believed that king Bali arrives on the earth and blesses his devotees during these days.

On the occasion, the image of king Bali has to be drawn at the center of home along with his wife Vindhyavali. The image then is adorned with five different colors. The same image is worshipped during Bali Puja. Bali Puja in North India has a similar concept that of Onam in South India, during Onam, king Bali is worshipped.
