According to Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), wearing seat belt is mandatory for a passenger sitting on the rear seat. The mandatory wearing of the seat belt by passengers in the rear seat of the car as provided by the law, could have saved former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, who was killed in a nasty road accident on Sunday. Preliminary investigation into the accident has revealed that Mistry and one of his co-passengers were not wearing seat belts and the car was at high speed when the accident took place.
