Xiaomi, which is dominating the Indian smartphone market on the back of its low-budget smartphones and amazing features, is now trapped by the country's currency crisis. The Chinese smartphone maker has recently decided to hike prices of its various products including smartphones, LED TV and power banks. Xiaomi has blamed it all on the Indian rupee. But as for you customers, it comes as a bad news if you are planning to buy the latest Redmi 6 series smartphones. Among the smartphones, it would be Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A that have seen an uptick in their market price, hence, they are now more expensive for you.
Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain released a notification on its Twitter account saying, "Mi Fans! INR has depreciated against US$ by ~15% since the beginning of this year, resulting in significant rise in input costs."
Jain said, "We are adjusting the prices of Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Mi Powerbank 2i & Mi TV (32" Pro & 49" Pro)."
