Whatsapp users alert: Android and iOS users have only two days left to update their smartphones and ensure that they continue to have WhatsApp access. WhatsApp is set to end support for some Android and iOS smartphones from 1st February 2020. The popular messaging platform has informed its users that will end support for older versions of the operating systems. The app will stop working on smartphones running older versions of iOS, Android and Windows.

WhatsApp will be not available on Android devices running 2.3.7 and older or iOS 8 and older from February 1, 2020. The app had stopped working on older Windows phones from December 31, 2019. The idead behind the step is to come up with new features that are only supported on the newer versions of OS.

Which iOS and Android smartphones will lose support?

- All phones running Android 2.3.7 and older

- All iPhones running iOS 8 and older

- All phones featuring Windows OS

In a statement released earlier, WhatsApp had said that it was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. In the past too, WhatsApp has ended support for older operating systems such as the Nokia Symbian S60, Nokia Series 40 operating systems, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Android 2.1 and 2.2, Windows Phone 7, and iPhone 3GS and iOS 6 among others.

In a separate development, the app is working on introducing dark mode for the users. The feature has recently made its way to the beta version of the Android app and is expected to be rolled out soon.
