Foldable iPhone to be released in 2026 or 2027? Here’s what you need to know

As brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo have already carved out a niche in the foldable device segment in the market, Apple seems to be in no hurry, according to a report. While speculations for long have been doing rounds about Apple entering the foldable segment, concrete details are yet to emerge. To cite TrendForce’s recent report, “Apple is unlikely to release a foldable phone before 2027.” The delay is attributed to the brand’s evaluation of “component specifications and performance, with strict requirements for crease and reliability.”
 
It is to be noted that the folding mechanism of a foldable device is a critical aspect of its durability. Brands toil hard to work on devices’ creases that can withstand a considerable number of folds over the years. The term ‘reliability’ used in the report appears to be hinting at this aspect. 

However, in a report, 9to5Mac cites Haitong International analyst Jeff Pu, who says that Apple’s 7.9-inch foldable device, to be released in 2026, will feature a “wrap-around foldable design.” Pu further stated that it will be “similar” to the Huawei Mate Xs 2. 
 
In other development, Apple, at its World Wide Developer Conference, introduced iOS 18 with a new slew of features. Giving a new look to the Control Centre, users will get more customization options. Now, the home screen can be subject to customisation, offering options to change the icons in terms of size, colours, and more. 

In a press release, Apple quoted Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering as saying, “We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customization and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. There are so many benefits for everyone.” 

In what is being termed a first-of-its-kind feature, the users now can customize the controls provided at the bottom of the Lock Screen. This can be done either by selecting from the options available in the controls gallery or entirely removing them.
