Samsung Galaxy M51 vs Galaxy M31s: Is it worth spending Rs 5000 extra?

Only a month back Samsung had launched the Galaxy M31s and has now followed it up with the launch of Galaxy M51 – a smartphone that packs a 7000 mAh battery. The base model of the latter is priced at Rs 24,999 – about Rs 5,500 more than the standard model of the Galaxy M31s. Now, a lot of smartphone users are curious about why exactly should they be spending that extra amount and what all are they getting for that price. So, here is a quick look at the specs of both the smartphones to answer that question.

The Samsung Galaxy M51 price in India has been set at Rs 24,999 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model while the top-end 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant will be available at Rs 26,999. On the other hand, the Galaxy M31s costs you Rs 19,499 for the base 6GB RAM model.

To begin with, you get a bigger and better display on the Samsung Galaxy M51. The smartphone features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus Infinity O Display that offers a 20:9 aspect ratio. This is an improvement on the 6.5 inch Super AMOLED display used on the M31s.  

Samsung has made a big change when it comes to performance by using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor instead of the under fire Exynos chipset. This should be one of your biggest reasons to spend on the smartphone for an improved performance. The Galaxy M31s is powered by Exynos 9611 which you can find on most mid-range Samsung smartphones.  

Another change comes in the battery department where the M51 packs a 7000 mAh battery against the 6000 mAh battery on the M31s. Both the smartphones have support for 25W fast charger.

There is not much difference in terms of design. While both the smartphones look very similar, the M51 sports a surprisingly bigger hole punch than the M31s.  

There is no change in the camera department as well. The Galaxy M51 features the same quad camera setup at the back with 64MP primary Sony IMX 682 sensor, 12MP secondary ultra-wide lens, 5MP portrait lens and 5MP macro sensor.  

On the front too both the phones sport a single 32MP image sensor to click selfies.
