WhatsApp's new privacy update: Restricts unknown contacts to view 'last seen' status

WhatsApp latest update: If you have privacy concerns related to WhatsApp, we have good news for you! the Meta-owned famous messaging application WhatsApp is releasing in a new privacy update to prevent unknown contacts to see a user's last seen and online status.

This new feature has been reportedly rolled out for both Android and iOS-enabled devices. "WhatsApp is enabling new privacy measures to protect users. Unauthorized third-party apps cannot see your last seen and online status anymore," WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp, recently wrote on Twitter.

WABetaInfo also shares a report, in which it says that some third-party apps from Google Play Store on Android and Apple App Store on iOS can access data from the app to log 'online' status time and 'Last Seen' time. WhatsApp has now introduced some safeguards to stop such apps from accessing such data. 

The Meta-owned application is enabling new privacy measures to protect users. Unauthorized third-party apps cannot see your last seen and online status anymore. Also, the messaging application is also working on a feature that will enable users to restrict certain information including their 'Last Seen' and profile picture from specific contacts.

WhatsApp is also adding new functionality to its disappearing messages feature, which will allow users to set messages to be automatically deleted after a set period of time. The messaging application said that users will now have the option of turning on disappearing messages automatically for all their new chats.

The messaging application is additionally also giving users the option to have their messages disappear after 24 hours or 90 days, in addition to the seven-day period it originally introduced the feature with last year.
