Government bans 43 mobile apps including AliExpress in major crackdown: Check full list

The government of India has banned 43 mobile apps on Tuesday evening in the latest crackdown against foreign developers. This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order said. The list contains names like AliExpress and Lalamove India – popular shopping and delivery apps. 

“Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India today issued an order under section 69A of the Information Technology Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps. This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order,” the order read.

In a similar move, the government had banned 59 Chinese mobile applications, including top social media platforms such as TikTok, WeChat and Helo earlier this year. The decision was taken to counter the threat posed by these applications to the country’s “sovereignty and security”.  

ShareIT, UC browser and shopping app Clubfactory were among the other prominent apps that have been blocked amid rising tensions between India and China following clashes at the border two weeks ago.
