The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan Samman Nidhi) scheme is an ambitious government initiative aimed at boosting the financial stability of farmers across India. The government initiative aims to support farmers by offering financial assistance. The program offers a sum of Rs 6,000 annually to each farmer's family. The amount is distributed evenly across three installments of Rs 2,000 each, delivered every four months.
PM Kisan eligibility
Eligibility for this scheme is extended to all landholding farmers' families that have cultivable land registered in their names. However, serving or retired officers and employees of central or state governments and public sector enterprises are not eligible for benefits under this scheme. Likewise, regular employees of local bodies, and any family where a member is an income tax payee in the last assessment year, are also excluded.
However, the scheme makes an exception for multi-tasking staff (MTS) or Class IV/Group D employees. They can avail of the scheme's benefits, assuming their families meet other eligibility criteria and do not fall under the exclusion category.
Extension of PM Kisan scheme
Contrary to common assumptions, the scheme isn't limited to farmers owning less than 2 hectares of cultivable land. The scheme's benefits have been extended to include all farmer families, regardless of their land holdings' size. This change expands the scope of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, enabling more farmers to receive financial assistance.
Who is not eligible for PM Kisan?
The scheme is designed to aid those in most need. As a result, farmer families where any member is an income tax payee in the last assessment year are not eligible for benefits under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. This ensures that the assistance reaches those who truly require it and maintain the program's integrity and purpose.
With these criteria and procedures in place, the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi continues to serve as a valuable resource for Indian farmers, extending a financial lifeline to millions of farmers across the country. The scheme, while providing financial assistance, also serves as a testament to the Indian government's commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and ensuring the nation's food security.
