7th Pay Commission Pension: The Government of India (GoI) gives various types of pensions to the central government employees and their family members.
7th Pay Commission Pension: The Government of India (GoI) gives various types of pensions to the central government employees and their family members. Under the Family Pension Scheme 1971, center gives pension to the family member of the central government employee who has died during the service period. Earlier, under the 7th Pay Commission rules, normal Family Pension was given to those central government employees' family members who had died during the service period but their service period was more than seven years. But, through 54th Amendment in Family Pension Scheme 1971, center decided to changed the Family Pension Rules for those beneficiaries of the central government employees' who dies during their service period but before the completion of seven years of their service.
As per the changed Family Pension rules, families of government employees who passed away before completing seven years of service are now entitled to receive 50 per cent of last pay drawn (7th Pay Commission Salary) for 10 years as family pension. Earlier in case of their deaths, families of government employees who rendered at least seven years of service received 50 per cent of the last pay drawn as pension. For those, who had served less than seven years were eligible to receive 30 per cent of the last pay drawn.

For information of the readers, Family Pension rules suggest that primarily Family Pension is given to the widow or widower of the central government employee who dies during the service period. But, children below 25 yeas of age at the time o death of the central government employee are also eligible for Family Pension. This Family Pension is given to such children till they got married or their monthly income goes past Rs 9,000. Unmarried daughter, widow daughter or divorcee daughter of the died central government employee are also eligible for the Family Pension.
This Family Pension Scheme is applicable to all central government employees including central armed forces employees.
