IRCTC e-ticket cancellation rules: You should know these things to get refund

As the world and India continues to battle COVID-19 outbreak, certain services have resumed, with the hope of getting the economy back on track. The Indian Railways resumed operations of passenger trains partially from June 1. The national transporter is running 200 special mail/express trains in addition to the Shramik special trains. The tickets of all these trains can be purchased through IRCTC website or app. 

If you had booked a ticket at some point but are planning to cancel it now, there are some IRCTC e-ticket cancellation rules that you must know. 

If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train, flat cancellation charges shall be deducted at Rs 240 for AC First Class/Executive Class, Rs 200 for AC 2 Tier/First Class, Rs 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy, Rs 120 for Sleeper Class and Rs 60 for Second Class. Cancellation charges are per passenger. 

If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned in the above clause.

Less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train up to chart preparation which is earlier, 50% of the fare paid subject to the minimum cancellation charges.  

The passengers should also know they will be compulsorily screened before the journey and if during screening, a passenger has a very high temperature, symptoms of Covid-19 etc., they will not be allowed to travel despite having confirmed tickets.   

In such case, on a party ticket if one passenger is found unfit to travel and also all other passengers on the same PNR do not want to travel in that case full refund shall be granted for all passengers. On a party ticket if one passenger is found unfit to travel however other passengers on the PNR want to travel in that case full refund of fare shall be granted to the passenger who was not allowed to travel.
