There are several facilities that go unnoticed by passengers travelling in Indian railways. With just a train ticket, you can have many free benefits and rights that you might not be aware of. Indian railways offers various complimentary facilities to its passengers such as complimentary bedrolls or even free meals in certain situations. However, passengers are not aware of these perks. Therefore, let’s explore when and how IRCTC provides these free services to enhance your journey. 

Free bedrolls
In AC1, AC2 and AC3 coaches of Indian railways, free bedrolls are provided to the passengers. It included a blanket, a pillow, two bedsheets and a hand towel. However, in Garib Rath Express, people have to pay Rs 25 for bedroll. Apart from this, passengers can also get bedroll in sleeper class in some trains on demand by paying extra charge. If you do not get a bedroll during the train journey, then you can complain against it and claim a refund.

Free medical help
If you fall sick during a train journey, the railways provide you first aid for free and if the condition is serious, it also arranges for further treatment. For this, you can contact front line employees, ticket collectors, train superintendents, etc. If needed, the Indian railways will also arrange medical treatment for you at the next train stoppage at a reasonable price.

Free Food
If you are travelling by premium trains like Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi, and your train gets delayed by more than 2 hours, then the IRCTC will provide you free food. Apart from this, if your train is delayed and you want to eat something good, then you can also order food in the train from RE-catering service.

Luggage can be kept in safe custody for a month
Cloakrooms and locker room are also available on major stations where luggage where luggage can be kept in safe custody for a maximum of 1 month. However, you have to pay some charges for this.

Free waiting rooms
Waiting rooms are available for passengers travelling in Indian railways. In case you get down at any station, and you have to wait some time at the station to catch the next train or for any other work, then you can wait comfortably in the AC or non-AC waiting hall at the station. For this you have to show your train ticket.
