Anji Khad bridge: India's first 'cable-styled' bridge an engineering marvel - watch video

Indian Railways is working on the country's first 'cable-styled' railway bridge!

The work is going on at this engineering marvel in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir under the Udampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway project.

The bridge, which will be known as the Anji Khad Bridge, will be an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge.

The bridge will be balanced on the axis of a central pylon.

While the bridge's main span will be 290 metres, its total deck width will be 15 metres. 

The Ministry of Railways claimed to have completed 83 per cent work.

Some facts about the Anji Khad bridge

• The construction company of the bridge is Hindustan Construction Company.
• The length of the bridge is 473 metres (1,552 ft). 
• The bridge's main arch span is 265 metres (869 ft) and the deck height is 189 metres (620 ft). 
• The bridge contains 96 cables to support its structure. The length of the cables varies from 80 metres to 295 metres. 

• The bridge will connect Katra and Raesi via tunnels T2 and T3 on the Katra-Banihal section. 
• Trains can run up to 100km/h, and the bridge can withstand wind speeds up to 213 km/h.
• The bridge will have a number of sensors installed on it to gauge its structural health. Explosions of up to 40 kg can't destroy the bridge.
