Uttar Pradesh Weekend Lockdown News Today: The unprecedented rise in the number of COVID-19 cases all over the country has baffled the state governments. Several states have imposed lockdown in their respective states while others have imposed weekend lockdowns and night curfews. On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to extend the weekend lockdown in the state amidst the adverse COVID-19 situation in the country.

The weekend lockdown in the state of Uttar Pradesh will now remain in place from Friday night till Tuesday morning as per a report by dnaindia.com. Earlier, the weekend lockdown was announced from Friday night till Monday morning. During this weekend lockdown, all markets, private and public offices will remain closed. 

Due to the COVID-19 situation in the state, the Allahabad High Court asked the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government to look for options including lockdown considering extreme shortage of oxygen and medicine facilities in the state during a court hearing on Tuesday. Earlier also, the Allahabad High Court ordered a complete lockdown in five cities of the state including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Varanasi and Gorakhpur from April 19, 2021, to April 26, 2021, as high coronavirus cases were being reported from these places.

The Uttar Pradesh government decided to extend the weekend lockdown after the Allahabad High Court on April 28 asked CM Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state to explore options including lockdown considering the extreme shortage of oxygen and medical facilities in the state.

During the weekend lockdown in Uttar Pradesh, the markets, shopping malls and restaurants will also remain closed. The religious places will also remain shut during the weekend lockdown. The people associated with essential services will only be exempted during this weekend lockdown. The state government has also asked people to remain indoors during this period of  time. 

Initially, the weekend lockdown in the state of Uttar Pradesh was supposed to take place from Friday 8 PM till Monday 7 AM. However, now it has been extended till Tuesday.
