Travelling by Indian Railways will now cut down your sleep by an hour
The railways in the circular requested passengers to cooperate with the sick, persons with disability, and pregnant ladies in case they want to sleep beyond permissible limits.
Now, passengers travelling in trains can only sleep between 10 pm to 6 am.
Indian Railways on Sunday issued a circular stating that the board has reduced the official sleeping hours in trains by an hour. Till now, the existing time for sleeping for the passengers in the reserved coaches was between 9 pm to 6 am, as reported by PTI.
The new rule added in paragraph 652 in Indian Railways Commercial Manual, Volume I, which talks about the sleeping accommodation.
However, the railways in the circular requested passengers to cooperate with the sick, persons with disability, and pregnant ladies in case they want to sleep beyond permissible limits.
Quoting ministry spokesperson Anil Saxena, PTI in the report said, "We had received feedback from officials regarding issues between passengers over sleeping arrangements. We already have a rule in place. However, we wanted to clarify it and ensure it is followed."
The circular also clarified that a person booked on side upper berth will not have any claim of seat on the lower berth between 10 pm and 6 am.
