PIB Fact Check: A report claiming that the government is levying 18 percent GST on crematorium services is being widely circulated on social media platforms.
However, the fact is that the government is charging no GST on funeral, burial, crematorium or mortuary services, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said.
The PIB's official fact check Twitter handle 'PIB Fact Check' said that the claim in the viral report is FAKE.
PIB tweeted, "Claim: There will be 18% GST on Crematorium Services."
"PIB Fact Check:
This claim is #Misleading.
There is no GST on funeral, burial, crematorium, or mortuary services.
In this reference GST @ 18% is only applicable for work contracts and not the services."
