PIB Fact Check: Amid rising cases of lottery scams, the government has alerted citizens to crosscheck before investing in schemes promising lucrative returns. The Press Information of Bureau (PIB) through its Twitter handle has warned that several schemes are being circulated on the internet in the name of the government to give an impression that these are authentic.
It said that the public should not fall prey to fraudsters asking them to invest in such lottery schemes. People should not heed to such calls, messages and emails, the PIB has warned.

The PIB also advised citizens not to share personal or financial information to anyone luring them with huge returns.
It also advised citizens to delete unwanted mail or spam quickly after receiving it. PIB also shared a FacTree which helps citizens stay alert against such frauds.

- Several fake lottery scams are being run in the name of the Indian government.
- If you get such a message/ phone call/ email of having won a lottery, you should immediately become cautious.
- Do not give your person information, bank details etc.
- Delete spam or unwanted emails right away.
