Mumbai airport latest news today: Some 300 flights delayed as Monsoon vents fury on city

Mumbai airport latest news today: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is among the busiest airports in the country and due to monsoon rain and other factors such as government scrapping Article 370, the situation has affected flight arrivals and departures in the city. Mumbai airport today witnessed 294 arrivals and departures delayed in just 18 hours. Even as Mumbai rains had their impact on the airport, to this was added the requirement for increased security measures after this recent development pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir and scrapping of Article 370. This was due to threat to civil aviation from a terrorist attacks. 

Various airlines have already warned their passengers about the delay in flights from and to Mumbai airport. The International civil aviation organisation (ICAO) has declared measures for landside security as a mandatory practice. Because of which the passengers have to spend some extra time for security measures. In view of this development, all vehicles particularly cars approaching airports will be subject to the intensive random security check at vehicle checkpoints, which is 01 KM away from the airport terminal or as per availability of the space for such barriers/ Naka/vehicle checking point. This will likely lead to passengers getting delayed on road.

According to the Mumbai airport website, 162 flights were delayed during departures including both domestic and international airlines. Majority of flights were delayed between 09 AM till 12 PM with 44 flight delays. 

Similarly, approximately 132 flights were delayed (arrivals) at Mumbai airport. For arrivals, majority flights were delayed from 03 PM to 06 PM, with 36 flight delays. More delays are expected to follow.
