Monsoon Alert: There will be relief from the heat waves in North India from today and the temperature will drop by 2 to 3 degrees, said RK Jenamani, Scientist at the Meteorological Department of India.
He further said that a system of Western Disturbance seems to be forming over North India. Dust storms and light rain can be seen. Relief and drop in temperature is also expected for the next one week. However, from next week the heat will increase again.
Apart from this, the monsoon will knock in Delhi and North India in about one and a half months. There is also a possibility of dust storms and light rain today and tomorrow in and around Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh. The temperature will also drop, he said.
The progress of the monsoon is going well, said Jenamani. So far monsoon has covered Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Pre-Monsoon rains are continuing over Kerala and are likely to arrive by May 27. Also, the monsoon will reach Delhi by the end of June, he predicted.
The MeT department said a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana will induce pre-monsoon activity that will provide some relief from the intense heat on Monday and Tuesday.
The IMD said a thunderstorm or a dust storm is likely in the national capital on Monday.
The minimum temperature on Monday morning was recorded at 30.8 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal. The relative humidity was at 22 percent.

A tormenting heatwave swept through the national capital and its neighbouring areas on Sunday with the mercury leaping to 49.2 degrees Celsius at Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi and 49.1 degrees Celsius at Najafgarh in the southwest parts of the city.
Maximum temperatures reached unbearable highs of 48.4 degrees Celsius at Sports Complex, 47.5 degrees Celsius at Jafarpur, 47.3 degrees Celsius at Pitampura and 47.2 degrees Celsius at Delhi Ridge.
