Monsoon Rains Weather Update: Several regions across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and the national capital received heavy rains on Wednesday, July 24, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) – the country’s weather office - issuing rainfall alerts and other warnings for the next few days. Umerpada in Surat district and Visavadar in Junagadh district in Gujarat, Pali in Lalitpur district in Uttar Pradesh, and Lonavala in Maharashtra received up to 300 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till the early hours on Wednesday, according to the weather agency. 

Rainfall of 180-200 mm was recorded in Jharbandh in Bargarh district of Odisha and Dheemarkheda in Katni district of East Madhya Pradesh.

IMD Rainfall Alerts & Warnings

In Madhya Pradesh, the weather department issued a heavy rainfall alert for the next five days, predicting that downpours may continue in several regions in the state, including its western districts of Dindori, Katni, Seoni, Panna, Mandla, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, and Neemuch. 

In Maharashtra, heavy showers were recorded in the western district of Kohlapur, with River Panchganga flowing close to the danger mark. The IMD issued an orange alert - which indicates extreme weather conditions due to rainfall to the tune of 115-204 mm - for the mountain pass areas in Pune. 

In the national capital, the IMD issued a yellow alert till Thursday, forecasting rains to continue to lash the city till July 28. Late last month, rainfall of 235.5 mm was recorded in a span of 24 hours - the highest in the month of June since 1936.

In Gujarat, the weather agency issued an orange warning for Saurashtra and Kutch regions from July 26 to July 28, predicting the likelihood of 'very heavy rainfall' (115.6-204.4 mm).
