Approved 1000 Shramik Special trains till date, Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal reveals
Shramik Special Trains: In a bid to help labourers stranded in various states to reach their native place, the Narendra Modi Government has approved 1,000 Shramik Special trains run by the Indian Railways.
Shramik Special Trains: In a bid to help labourers stranded in various states to reach their native place, the Narendra Modi Government has approved 1,000 Shramik Special trains run by the Indian Railways. The Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal informed about the development through a tweet from his official twitter handle today. Goyal further informed that major beneficiaries of this approval by the Modi government on Shramik Special trains will be the stranded labourers from Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar.
Informing about the decision on Shramik Special trains, Piyush Goyal tweeted (in Hindi), "Under the leadership of PM @NarendraModi, the total number of Shramik Special trains approved till date is up to 1,000. Yesterday, the Indian Railways ran 145 Shramik Special tains to help stranded labourers to reach their native place." Goyal went on to add that out of the total Shramik Special trains being run by the Indian Railways, nearly 75 per cent had its destination points either in UP or in Bihar.

Indian Railways crossed the milestone of transporting a total of more than one million passengers( 10 lacs) to their home states through Shramik Special trains till 14th May 2020. The Ministry of Railways had announced about the achievement in a written press statement on 14th May 2020.

In Shramik Special trains, passengers are being given free meals and water during the entire journey. In this Shramik Special trains, 85 per cent of the train ticket fare is being subsidised by the Indian Railways while 15 per cent is either given by the state government or by the passenger (depending upon the policy of the concerned state government).
