Air India flight tragedy: Hostess falls off plane at Mumbai airport, sustains serious injuries
In an 'unfortunate' incident, an Air India hostess fell off a Boeing-777 aircraft reportedly while closing the door. The air hostess has been admitted to Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital. The air hostess has sustained serious injuries to her legs.
The incident happened when the flight AI 864 was getting ready for departure for Delhi at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
The airline termed the incident as 'unfortunate' and said that it was investigating as to what caused the 53-year-old hostess to tumble out of the plane.
"In an unfortunate incident, one of our cabin crew (members), Harsha Lobo, fell down on the tarmac from the Boeing-777 aircraft door while closing it," the airline said in a statement.
About three years ago, an Air India engineer had got sucked into the aircraft's engine at the airport here when the pilots started the engines prematurely after mistaking a signal.

Air India has been in the news for the wrong reasons over the state of its finances too. The airline is debt-ridden and is functioning with the help of continuous bail-out packages sanctioned by the government. The Centre has already rejected an aviation ministry proposal to waive Air India’s working capital debt of Rs 30,000 crore in one go.
The airline has recently invited bids for the sale of its 14 properties to raise about Rs 250 crore. The properties are spread across Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and Amritsar.
