After controversy over 50% discount, Air India does U-turn in UAE

A controversy engulfed Air India recently and the airline scrambled to set things right again. In a relief for Indians residing in United Arab Emirates, Air India, the largest international carrier out of India, came up with the decision to  reinstate discounts on the repatriation of mortal remains from the UAE to India.

After the carrier scrapped the UAE-based discount policy on September 19, the residents had expressed dismay over this decision. As per a report from Khaleej Times, Air India has now announced that it will continue to retain 50% discount on repatriation of mortal remains from the United Arab Emirates and this decision will also apply to the Indian national carrier's budget service Air India Express.

Further it is said that Senior officials from the airline's offices in Dubai informed that Air India would maintain status quo and continue to provide a 50 per cent discount for repatriation of mortal remains from the UAE.

The report also added that Air India had decided to charge passengers as per The Air Cargo Tariff and Rules (Tact) rates set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
 
However, for now, India's national airline will maintain the status quo and will continue to retain this discount.
