A massive data breach has been reported from Air India over the span of 10 years. The cyberattack on Air India customers came between August 26, 2011, and February 3, 2021 and targeted 45 lakh flyers. In a decade long data breach, name, date of birth, contact information, passport info, ticket info, Star Alliance and Air India frequent flyer data and credit cards data have been leaked, ANI quoted Air India reveling this information. It however, said no passwords data has been affected.

"This incident affected around 4,500,000 data subjects in the world. In respect of credit cards data, CVV/CVC numbers are not held by our data processor. Further, our data processor has ensured that no abnormal activity was observed after securing the compromised servers: Air India," tweeted ANI.

Meanwhile, Air India assured that measures were taken as soon as the matter came to the fore. Investigating data security incident, securing compromised servers, engaging external specialists of data security incidents, notifying and liaising with credit card issuers and resetting passwords of Air India FFP prog were immediately done to ensure no such incident do not happen again.
"While we and our data processor continue to take remedial actions...We would also encourage passengers to change passwords wherever applicable to ensure safety of their personal data," the airline said in a statement.
The national carrier said that it received the first information regarding the data breach on February 25, and the identity of the affected data subjects was received on March 25 and April 5.
