Under this proposal, each battery-swapping station will be given a UIN number. They also proposed to set up swapping stations at retail fuel outlets, parking areas, and malls. In the first phase, priority will be given to cities with a population of more than 40 lakhs. Under the second phase, the states with a population of more than 5 lakh will be covered.
Batteries will be certified to AIS 156 (2020) standard to protect the traction battery pack. Rigorous test protocols will also be adopted for safety at the electrical interface.
Apart from all this, the policy also proposes to offer incentives available for electric vehicles. There is also a proposal to allocate subsidies to the battery providers for the battery requirement.

Exchanging a discharged battery for a charged battery is called battery swapping. In other words, battery swapping is to provide the facility of de-linking charging and battery charging to the batteries. For the time being, the battery swap will be used for two-wheeler and three-wheeler.
