Joe Biden makes surprise visit to Kyiv ahead of first anniversary of Russia-Ukraine war

President Joe Biden made an unannounced visit Monday to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a gesture of solidarity that comes days before the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the country.

Biden delivered remarks at met with Zelensky at Mariinsky Palace to announce an additional half billion dollars in U.S. assistance and to reassure Ukraine of American and allied support as the conflict continues.

“One year later, Kyiv stands. And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands,” Biden said.

Biden tweeted, “As we approach the anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, I’m in Kyiv today to meet with President Zelenskyy and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

As per reports of Reuters, President Biden announced half a billion dollars in extra assistance, including artillery, ammunition, more Javelins, and Howitzers. 

"RF will surely lose. Putin & his entourage will be tried. Ukraine will get all weapons it needs. No compromises" says US President. 

Russia Ukraine war broke out a year ago on Feb 23, 2022.
