Strong earthquake of magnitude 7 hits Mexico- Check details here

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 has hit Los Organos de San Agustin, Mexico.

The information was provided by the US Geological Survey (USGS) via a tweet. "Notable quake, preliminary info: M 7.0 - 4 km ENE of Los Organos de San Agustin, Mexico," it tweeted.

As per a PTI report, in Mexico City, the ground shook for nearly a minute in some parts of the capital, but was less evident in other parts. Mexico City authorities said there were no early reports of significant damage in the city, though they said electricity was knocked out in some neighbourhoods.

It can be noted that an earthquake is a natural phenomenon that occurs when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past one another. The surface where they slip is called the fault or fault plane, the location below the earth’s surface where the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter, and the location directly above it on the surface of the earth is called the epicenter.
