Wimbledon 2023 Draws: Players Who Will Be Missed
The king of grass, Roger Federer, will be the biggest miss, as he announced his retirement last year. He has won the tournament a record eight times in his career. Spanish icon Rafael Nadal has also withdrawn his name after sustaining a hip injury.
Japanese Naomi Osaka and American Amanda Anisimova both decided to take some time off from tennis to focus on their mental health. After Naomi announced her pregnancy later last year, the initial gap was extended to accommodate her maternity leave.
The Croatian Marin Cilic is also out of the tournament because of a knee injury.
Ajla Tomljanovic, a two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist, was also forced to pull out due to a knee injury. Karen Khachanov withdrew from the tournament owing to a stress fracture sustained at the French Open. Romanian Simona Halep will also be out because of a doping ban that hit her at the back end of last year after she tested positive for Roxadustat at the 2022 US Open.
