Wimbledon 2023: Wimbledon 2023 is set to begin today, July 3, with some of the greatest names in the world of tennis facing each other for the glorious trophy at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in London. Wimbledon 2023 is set to be played in the first half of July and will end on the 16th.

On June 30, the draws for the first round of the tournament were out, and we could see some great matches lined up for the start of the tournament.  

Wimbledon 2023: A Golden Opportunity for Djokovic

This year, a lot of top tennis players, including Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios, and Merin Cilic, have withdrawn from the tournament due to injuries or some other reason. This has made the tournament a little less competitive in many ways, but it hasn't taken the emotion and excitement out of it.

This is most likely to help seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic, who is aiming to get his hands on the joint-record eighth Wimbledon trophy. If the Serbian wins this time at the All England Club, he will join Swiss legend Roger Federer, who has already won the title a record eight times. With Nadal out with an injury and Federer no longer playing tennis, it will give Djokovic an upper hand in equaling the record for the most Wimbledon titles.

Djokovic already holds the record for most Grand Slam titles in men's tennis with 23, and he will surely have a chance to consolidate his record this fortnight. Djokovic has a cushion of one Grand Slam over his nearest competitor, Nadal, who has 22 titles to his name.

His record eight titles came in the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2017. Federer announced his retirement from professional tennis last year.

Novak Djokovic, seven (7) Wimbledon titles: Djokovic has been the dominant force in recent years in this tournament. He was crowned champion in the last four editions of the tournament. The Serbia-born star has won a total of seven titles: 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. 

Pete Sampras, seven (7) Wimbledon titles: The America-born player was the most commanding player in the 1990s. He won his first Wimbledon Grand Slam title in 1993, and added more trophies to his cabinet in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.   

Bjorn Borg, five (5) Wimbledon titles: Swedish Bjorn Borg has won all his Wimbledon grand slam titles consecutively. He dominated the grass court from 1976 to 1980, winning all the Wimbledons played in those years.

John McEnroe and Boris Becker, three (3) Wimbledon titles each: American John McEnroe and German Boris Becker jointly hold the record for winning the tournament three times each. McEnroe won the tournament in 1981, 1983, and 1984, whereas Becker won it in 1985, 1986, and 1989.
