KL Rahul injury: LSG skipper rules himself out of World Test Championship final to undergo thigh surgery, to miss rest of IPL
KL Rahul injury: The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise sustained the injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this week.
India's keeper-batsman KL Rahul ruled himself out of the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final on Friday. In a post shared on Instagram, Rahul said that he will be undergoing thigh surgery on the advice of his medical team. India will be battling it out against Australia in he WTC final at the Oval in London from June 7. India will be playing this game without the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul — who are all unavailable due to injuries.
The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise sustained the injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this week. He has since been ruled out for an indefinite period due to the thigh injury.
In the statement uploaded to Rahul's social media handles, the player said: "Absolutely gutted that I won't be at the Oval next month with Team India. I'll do everything I can to get back in blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority."
"After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it's been concluded that I'll be undergoing a surgery on my thigh shortly."
"My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It's a tough call to make, but I know it's the right one to ensure a full recovery," he added.
His IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants also issued a press release saying the squad's designated skipper has suffered a tear to his tendon and facing a "lengthy layoff".
"... Further tests and scans have unfortunately confirmed a significant tear to his tendon which will require surgery," LSG said in the release.
"We are continuing to provide all possible support to KL at this difficult time and are working with him to ensure the best care on his road to recovery. However, the extent of the injury means that he is set for a lengthy layoff, which will include the remainder of this IPL season."
He was injured while fielding at the boundary ropes against RCB at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, after which he limped off the field with the help of team physio and another player.
