England was handed their biggest defeat in ODI history in their last match against South Africa, where they lost by 229 runs.

Match 1) 1975, Prudential World Cup, Lords
This was the first time the world had ever witnessed a Cricket World Cup, and it was the first match of the tournament that India had lost against England by 202 runs. Dennis Amiss of England scored a blistering 137 runs off 147 balls to set a target of 334 runs for India after 60 overs. On the other hand, India was taken back by little master Sunil Gavaskar, who scored just 36 runs in 174 balls. This innings by Gavaskar can be considered one of the most bizarre in a limited-over fixture.
Match 2) 1983, Semi-final, Prudential World Cup, Manchester
The year when India made history was also the time when India managed to beat England for the first time in the World Cups. England, winning the toss, chose to bat first; however, they were bowled out within 213 runs in 60 overs. Kapil Dev picked up three wickets, with Roger Binny and Mohinder Amarnath picking up two each. India made 217 runs in 54.4 overs, winning the match by six wickets, courtesy of two brilliant half-centuries by Yashpal Shamra and Sandeep Patil.
India went on to win their first World Cup, defeating the West Indies in the final.
Match 3) 1987, Semi-final, Reliance World Cup, Mumbai
England took their revenge for the 1983 World Cup loss in this edition. England was put to bat first by India, and they put up a good total of 254 in 50 overs courtesy of Graham Gooch's 115 runs off 136 balls. Maninder Singh picked up three wickets for India, giving away 54 runs in 10 overs. For India, Mohammad Azharuddin played a fighting innings of 64 off 74 balls. However, India was bowled out within 219 runs in 45.3 overs, with England winning the match by 35 runs. Eddie Hemmings picked up four wickets for England.
Match 4) 1992, Benson & Hedges World Cup, Perth
In one of the close match-ups between India and England, where England emerged victorious by nine runs. England put up a total of 236 runs in 50 overs, losing nine wickets in the process. Robin Smith made 91 off 108 balls in that innings, with skipper Graham Gooch scoring 51 off 89 balls. Kapil Dev, Manoj Prabhakar, and Javagal Srinath picked up two wickets each for India. India was bowled out within 227 runs in 49.2 overs, with only Ravi Shastri scoring a half-century.
Match 5) 1999, Group A, ICC ODI World Cup, Birmingham
India registered their second win against England in the ODI World Cups in this edition. India was put to bat first by England, and they set a target of 233 runs in 50 overs, losing eight wickets in the process. Rahul Dravid made a brilliant 50 off 82 balls, with Sourav Ganguly making 40 off 59 balls at the top. England crumbled within 169 runs in just 45.2 overs. Sourav Ganguly picked up three wickets in eight overs, giving away just 27 runs. India won the match by 63 runs.
Match 6) 2003, Pool stage match, ICC ODI World Cup, Durban
This match can be considered one of the most dominant wins for Team India against England in World Cups. India set up a target of 252 runs, courtesy of two brilliant half-centuries by Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar while losing nine wickets in the process. Andy Caddick picked up three wickets for England. In spite of a fighting 64 off 73 balls by Andrew Flintoff, England was bowled out within 168 runs owing to a brilliant bowling performance by Ashish Nehra. Nehra picked up six wickets in his 10 overs and gave away just 23 runs. India won the match by 82 runs.
Match 7) 2011, Group B, ICC ODI World Cup, Bangalore
This was the only match in this edition of the World Cup that was tied. India, winning the toss, set up a formidable target of 338 runs in 49.5 overs, courtesy of a brilliant century by Sachin Tendulkar and two well-made fifties by Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh, with Tim Bresnan picking up a fifer. Skipper Andrew Strauss scored 158 runs off 145 balls, with the match ending in a tie.
Match 8) 2019, Match 38, ICC ODI World Cup, Birmingham
This match can easily be one of the most exciting ones between these two sides in the World Cups. England, winning the toss, chose to bat first and was given a brilliant start by Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow, who scored 66 runs and 111 runs, respectively. Ben Stokes gave a great finish at the end, with his 79 off 54 balls taking the target to 338 runs in 50 overs. Mohammed Shami picked a fifer. For India, Rohit Sharma made 102 runs off 109 balls, and Virat Kohli scored 66 off 76 balls. Eventually, India made just 306 runs in their 50 overs, losing five wickets in the process.
In the end, England won the match by 31 runs.
