IND vs NZ semi-final, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: During the first semi-finals of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Indian opener Shubman Gill retired hurt due to leg cramps. This happened during the 23rd over, when Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner was bowling to Gill. The medical team attended to him, but he was unable to resume the game. It is believed that Mumbai's hot and humid weather, with little to no wind, contributed to his cramps.
Gill had been playing beautifully, as if the balls were naturally hitting the middle of his bat. He scored 79 runs off 65 balls in a 93-run second-wicket partnership with Virat Kohli. Shreyas Iyer was the new man who walked in to join Virat Kohli in Gill's place in the middle.
