Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is all set to announce on Saturday, March 16, the date sheet of the much-anticipated Lok Sabha polls this year. CEC Kumar will also declare the full schedule for polls in some state assemblies. Here is a summary of the schedules for the 2019 and 2014 polls.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As India eagerly awaits the much-anticipated general elections due this year, all eyes will be on Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar as he announces the full schedule for the mega event in a press conference at 3 pm on Saturday, March 16. CEC Kumar will also declare the full date sheet of polls in some state assemblies.

The CEC has already said that the poll body will decide whether the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held together with the Lok Sabha polls or separately after reviewing the security situation. Meanwhile, political parties have already begun releasing their lists of candidates for the general elections.

With India being the largest democracy in the world, the voting exercise—to fill 543 Lok Sabha seats—is carried out in multiple phases. For instance, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections took place in seven phases (from April 11 to May 19), whereas the 2024 polls were spread over nine phases (from April 7 to May 12).
So before the ECI reveals the phase-wise polling schedule for the upcoming general elections, here is a summary of the schedules for the 2019 and 2014 polls:

The schedule for the 2019 polls was announced on March 10 and the results were declared on May 23 that year.

The results of the general elections to Lok Sabha 2014 were declared on May 16, 2014.
Simultaneously, elections were also held for the Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana and Sikkim assemblies.
