World Mental Health Day 2022: Around 80% Indian workforce reports mental health issues

World Mental Health Day 2022: Over the years, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, there's been a marked rise in mental health issues globally. Also, in India, the difference in the number of male and female workers seeking treatment has become even more stark. According to a recent study, workplace stress contributes to around 80% of issues.  

The rise in mental health issues in the workplace was recently studied by Deloitte India in their survey named ‘Mental health and well-being in the workplace.

The survey was designed to understand the current state of mental well-being of employees in corporate India, and the challenges in managing their mental well-being. The survey was conducted and analysed during the end of 2021 and the first half of 2022. The analysis is based on the responses from 3,995 employees.

The scale of mental disorders in India accounts for nearly 15 percent of the global mental health burden.

• Poor mental health amongst employees costs Indian employers around US$14 billion yearly, says Deloitte’s Mental Health Survey  
• India needs to step up and dedicate funds to win the battle against rising Mental Health concerns  
• Around 80 percent of the Indian workforce has reported mental health issues over the past year  
•  Amongst LGBTQ+ respondents, 78 percent reported having faced at least one or more adverse mental health symptoms  
• World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on October 10 to raise awareness about mental health around the world and to support those experiencing mental health issues. This year's theme for World Mental Health Day 2022,  ‘Make mental health for all a global priority”.
