Delhi Weather Update: IMD forecasts light rain amidst sweltering heatwave
The IMD forecasts the maximum temperature in Delhi to reach 44 degrees Celsius, offering a slight respite from the blistering heat. Additionally, strong winds accompanying the anticipated light rain are expected to provide some relief to the sweltering residents.
Delhi Weather Update: As the blazing sun continues to scorch North India, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, relief seems to be on the horizon. With temperatures soaring past 47 degrees Celsius in many regions and hovering around 45 degrees in the capital, Delhiites have been enduring a relentless heatwave. However, a glimmer of hope emerges as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts the possibility of light rain and thundershowers in Delhi on Friday.
The IMD forecasts the maximum temperature in Delhi to reach 44 degrees Celsius, offering a slight respite from the blistering heat. Additionally, strong winds accompanying the anticipated light rain are expected to provide some relief to the sweltering residents.
At 8:30 am, the minimum temperature was recorded at 33.3 degrees Celsius with humidity at 32 percent. The department warns of cloudy weather with potential heatwave conditions in certain areas of Delhi. Furthermore, sporadic light rain or drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds are forecasted.
On Thursday, the IMD recorded a minimum temperature of 29.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi, surpassing the average temperature for this season by one degree.
In terms of air quality, the Central Pollution Control Board reported Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) at 181, categorising it as 'moderate'. While this falls within an acceptable range, concerns persist as air quality deterioration remains a constant challenge in the capital.
As Delhiites eagerly await relief from the scorching heat, the question of when the monsoon will arrive lingers. According to the Meteorological Department, the wait may extend for about two weeks. Monsoon is anticipated to grace the city by the end of June, with IMD suggesting a likely arrival around June 27. In Uttar Pradesh, the eastern region is expected to experience the initial showers, with districts like Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Ballia, Deoria, Kushinagar, and Ghazipur gearing up for the anticipated rainfall.
