Ashneer Grover trademarks his name, sparking debates on LinkedIn. While some praise his branding move, others question its implications, including potential royalties from Shark Tank India.
Ashneer Grover, a name that became a household term after his stint as a judge on Shark Tank India, has now taken a legal turn by trademarking his name. The entrepreneur, who often garners attention for his bold statements and business ventures, has added another milestone to his journey—registering his name as a trademark.
This intriguing development was shared on LinkedIn by Aditi Tuteja, a Delhi High Court lawyer, who facilitated the process. She highlighted that the move not only enhances Ashneer Grover's brand identity but also broadens his commercial opportunities beyond the entertainment sector. Tuteja also noted that Bollywood celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan have similarly trademarked their names.
LinkedIn reacts to Ashneer Grover's trademark
The announcement triggered a heated discussion on LinkedIn, with many startup founders and professionals weighing in on the implications.
Amar Chaudhary, the founder of BoYo, a healthy snacks startup, criticized the move, stating, "When a smart person achieves a lot early in their career, such things come to mind. It’s better to focus on real work." Chaudhary also questioned whether the trademark would restrict other members of the Grover family from naming their child "Ashneer."
Some users joked about the commercial aspects of the trademark. One speculated that Sony TV might now have to pay royalties for using Ashneer Grover's name in Shark Tank India promotions or tagging him in YouTube videos to garner views.
Another user humorously suggested that Ashneer should trademark his popular dialogue, "Yeh sab doglapan hai." Meanwhile, curiosity about the legal process also emerged, with one user asking, "How much did it cost to trademark your name?"

While some joked about royalty payments for using Ashneer Grover’s name on Shark Tank India, the legal implications of such a trademark are yet to be clarified. However, it undoubtedly positions Ashneer Grover as not just an entrepreneur but a personal brand to reckon with in the entertainment and business world.
