National Engineers Day 2022, 15 September: National Engineers Day is celebrated every year on September 15, commemorating the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of the best engineers of the nation. 

It is a day to honur and recognise the hard work of all engineers who have made significant contributions towards the growth and development of the country.

It was in 1968 when the government had declared to observe the birth anniversary of M Visvesvaraya as National Engineers Day.

M Visvesvaraya, regarded widely as the Father of Modern Mysore, was born on September 15, 1861 in Karnataka in a village named Muddenahalli. He completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Madras and later studied Civil Engineering at the College of Science in Pune.

Building the famous Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam in Mysore, implementation of the irrigation system in the Deccan Plateau, the flood protection system for Hyderabad, and planning for the construction of the road between Tirupati and Tirumala are among some of his notable works.

M Visvesvaraya was also awarded Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award, in 1955.
