Ronaldo vs Messi: Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial goal against Ghana at FIFA World Cup 2022 has broken two records of the legendary player Lionel Messi. The Portuguese captain on Thursday went past Argentina's Lionel Messi to bag his seventh FIFA World Cup Man of the Match award -the most by any player. Ronaldo, one of the most decorated players of the game, has also become the first player to score in five different editions of the FIFA world cup.

The Ronaldo's goal against Ghana yesterday was special for Portuguese captain for one more reason. With the goal against Ghana, Ronaldo surpassed Messi to become the highest goal-scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup goal tally. Also, Ronaldo became the second-oldest goalscorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup, after Roger Milla.

The Portuguese captain has appeared in every edition of FIFA World Cup, since his debut in 2006. He is the only player ever to score in five World Cups. According to the reports, CR7 now needs one more goal at the Qatar World Cup 2022 to equal the legendary Eusebio, who has nine World Cup goals. The 37-year-old became the second oldest player after Cameroon's Roger Milla to score a goal in the World Cup and also the third player to be both his country's oldest and youngest goalscorer at the World Cup. Croatia's Ivica Olic and Denmark's Michael Laudrup are the other two.

Ronaldo scored his latest goal after converting his penalty against Ghana in the 65th minute of Portugal’s opening match of the FIFA World Cup.  On Thursday, Portugal survived a few anxious moments to overcome African side Ghana 3-2 in a Group H match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at Stadium 974 here on Thursday.
