Kantara movie box office collection worldwide: Filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty's latest release 'Kantara' collected Rs 170 crore in India and Rs 18 crore overseas, for a worldwide gross of Rs 188 crore, becoming the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time beating Yash-starrer 'KGF'.

Due to the Diwali weekend, the film got a boost at the collections. The total box office collections of the film have reached Rs 170 crore. It will be crossing the Rs 200 crore mark before the end of the fourth week, according to pinkvilla.com. 'Kantara' has raked in Rs 111 crore approximately so far in Karnataka, with Rs 14 crore fourth weekend, which is double of the full fourth week of 'KGF 2'.

Entertainment Industry Tracker Ramesh Bala tweeted, "After #KGFChapter2 , #Kantara becomes the only 2nd #Sandalwood movie to enter the $1 Million club in USA". Written, directed and fronted by Rishab Shetty, the Kannada period action thriller was released on September 30. Producer Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films said they have plans to release Kantara in more languages in the coming weeks.

Kantara movie story 

Set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara follows a Kambala champion, played by Shetty, who comes to loggerheads with an upright Forest Range officer, Murali (Kishore). Kambala is an annual race, held from November to March in coastal Karnataka, in which a jockey drives a pair of buffaloes, tied to the plough, through parallel muddy tracks.

Kantara has garnered positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. The Kannada blockbuster got overwhelming IMDB rating of 9.3 out of 10. In fact, it has topped IMDb’s recent list of ‘India’s Current Top 250 Films.

Kantara movie controversy 

The Kerala-based musical group Thaikkudam Bridge has accused the producers of Kantara of violating their copyright. According to Thaikkudam Bridge, Kantara's song "Varaha Roopam" is a copy of its song "Navarasam," which was released roughly five years ago.
