Oscar Awards 2023: 'The Elephant Whisperers' documentary from India that had a roar at 95th Academy Awards

On Monday morning, when most of India was asleep or in slumber, The Elephant Whisperers, a documentary by Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga, rose to prominence at the 95th Academy Awards, where it won the esteemed award in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
The 40-minute short film is a science and nature documentary available on Netflix.
The documentary features Bomman and Bellie, a couple in Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu, who have devoted their lives to caring for an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu.
The documentary highlights the relationship between humans and animals.
The movie also passes on the message of why we should protect elephants and why there is a need to conserve them.
Gonzales dedicates win to 'Motherland India'
Gonsalves celebrated her Oscar win as an achievement for the country. Standing in front of hundreds of guests at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, she dedicated her award to "motherland India".
"I stand here to speak of our connection with the natural world, for the respect of indigenous communities, and empathy towards other living beings we share a space with, and finally, for coexistence," she said. Gonsalves also marked her debut with this documentary.
"Thank you to the Academy for recognising our film, highlighting indigenous people. And for Netflix, for believing in the power of our film."
After The Elephant Whisperers' win, Indians are eagerly awaiting the results for "Naatu Naatu" from the RRR movie, which has been nominated for the Best Music (Original Song).
