Oscars 2023: Naatu Naatu's win at Academy Awards is a celebration of India's outstanding artistic creation

Extraordinary things have an aura around them, a halo that is irresistible and impossible to ignore.

They have a vibrancy that fills anyone who comes into contact with them with enthusiasm. M.M. Keeravaani's masterpiece Naatu Naatu from the RRR movie is one such unique creation.

The song, written by Chandrabose with vocals by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, never creates a dull moment.

Ram Charan and Jr. NTR's moves in the song create energy that can make a sad soul cheerful in no time.   

At the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, when it won the Academy Award in the Best Music (Original Song) category, it was certainly a celebration of India's creativity on the global stage, but it was not a surprise that came out of the blue.

In January, the song had won the Golden Globe for the best original song, beating songs from contenders as strong as Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

When Naatu Naatu won the Critics Choice award for the best song the same month, the writing was on the wall, and it was anticipated by movie lovers that the Oscar Award was in the offing.

However, the Academy Awards are a totally different ballgame. Spceculations and predictions take a back seat and a surprise winner may pop up out of nowhere.

But on Monday, destiny had willed otherwise for Naatu Naatu. It lived up to its class and turned the tables on its competitors. 
   
What makes this song a masterpiece is the 19-month-long preparation that went into it.

Its picturisation outside the Ukrainian presidential palace at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, arrangement and training of hundreds of artists during that testing time, and 17 days of shooting.

The outcome was a song that is one of the best artistic creations not only in the history of Indian cinema but on the global stage. 

Moments before Naatu Naatu's award was announced at the Dolby Theatre, a short India film, The Elephant Whisperers, had also won the Academy Award for the Best Documentary Short Film.

Naatu Naatu gave Indians double delight and serves as an example that everything is possible if Indians believe in their abilities and sheer hard work.
