Zee Business sources say that the government was considering increasing the minimum support price (MSP) of sugar for 2024-25. The current MSP of sugar is Rs 31/kg, while sugar mills are demanding it to increase to Rs 41/kg. The downfall comes after in a letter issued to all sugar mills and distillers, the Food Ministry directed them "not to use sugarcane juice /sugar syrup" for ethanol production during the 2023-24 ethanol supply year (December-November).
